Quote of the Day – Murray – “This is the second time I need cup holders on my bike”

Picture 4 deg C, rain and boring down the I5 Interstate at 70mph in driving rain for 6hours. Actually, Loren and I had a interesting revelation over some hot beef stew at the Country Cafe today. The gear we have has 2 layers, an outer wearing layer and an inner waterproof liner. So the freezing rain drives in through the first layer and then stops – hence keeping us dry. For starters, 4 deg C is the same temp as a fridge. Secondly the wind….. the revelation was that we are sitting in a fan forced fridge on wheels, dry but a tad chilly.

90% of the day was spent riding in the rain and doing battle with the hundreds of Freightliners rocketing south and spraying up bitumenised watery paste that sticks to your helmet visor like half melted mozzarella. At least we can provide some entertainment for the folks at the gas stations. “You are riding a motorbike…. in winter?”

Day 2 down, 514kms today and tomorrow we are heading for San Francisco. Woohoo!

Today’s shout out goes to Damanbir Singh in Salem, Oregon.

Love the hotel valet cart for all your gear… and the picture of Murray almost looks like he could be at an Australian fuel station… apart from the fact that he is visibly shivering in a North American winter!

Murray and Loren – nice meeting you guys!

I’m the guy you met outside SF BMW. So jazzed for you. Wish I could join you. Wait, I think I will. See you in the morning. I’ll prolly have to turn around in Panama.

In all seriousness, if you need anything in SF, let me know. There’s a great tire shop around the corner from SF BMW.

    Cheers!

Thanks for the info Brad. Murray has his heart set on a set of Heidenaur tires that he has tracked down in Phoenix. As we are dropping in to Mexico from Tucson, it works out perfectly.

We are rather excited about the trip too. Check in to see how we are going.
